2013 Audi S5 Coupe

PRO’s: Outstanding build quality, wonderful performance, supermodel sexy.

CON’s: Big sticker price, doesn’t feel as fast as it actually is, a bit tight for taller drivers.

FINAL THOUGHTS: A kick-ass sports coupe that has no problem taking on the worlds best.

If you’re reading this then you’re probably wondering if the 2013 Audi S5 Coupe S tronic is worth the $67,370 price tag that comes on the sticker. I just spent the better part of a week with this thing and I can tell you that after about 500 miles on some of Northern California’s best roads, that the answer is just not as simple as YES or No. This is a jack-of-all-trades performance coupe. It produces great numbers, is all-weather capable and has some of the best styling in the business. However, does that justify this whopper of a price tag?

Singer 911

At first glance the Singer 911 looks like a standard old Porsche 911 with some subtle body tweaks. Look a little harder though and you’ll begin to see that not only are there huge differences, but that there’s zero in the way of classic 911 left in this car. Chris Harris recently spent the day touring Singer’s facility and then, took one of their cars out for a canyon/road course blast. To say he came away impressed would be an understatement.

2013 Volkswagen Passat S: Akatuki4 Review

2013 VW Passat S

Thumbs Up: Impressive build quality, surprising chassis, plenty of rear legroom.

Thumbs Down: Not quite the beauty it used to be.

Buy This Car If: You’re looking for an affordable German-designed family sedan.

Volkswagen’s Passat sedan has traditionally been a hard sell in the U.S. market. Though stylish and well-equipped, it got expensive quickly when options were piled on, and many buyers realized that the step up to an Audi A4 or a BMW 3 Series wouldn’t cost considerably more than a well-equipped VW Passat. 2013 Volvo S60 T6 R

PRO’s: Fantastic engine and transmission, great handling and performance manners.

CON’s: Bland-ish styling, confusing electronics interface, small back seat.

FINAL THOUGHT: A nice European sports sedan for those looking for an alternative to rivals from BMW and Audi.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been behind the wheel of a Volvo. So long in fact that I can’t remember when my last experience was with the brand. Looking upon this as a good thing though I dumped any preconceived notions at the door and went in with a clean slate. This is a 2013 Volvo S60 T6 R-Design with all-wheel drive. As optioned it costs $48,195.00, comes with a turbocharged inline-6 and was one of the biggest surprises I’ve experienced in quite some time from a performance standpoint.

Aston Martin One-77

It’s made of carbon fiber, has a 7.3-liter V12 that makes 730 hp, and is one of the rarest cars ever built by Aston Martin. The One-77 is one of those rare machines that comes along when a car company wants to make a statement. It’s built to show off not only their technology and innovation, but their place in the automotive world as a whole. Harry Metcalfe of EVO Magazine recently had a chance to experience the One-77 and his findings were pretty much as you’d expect them to be – brilliant!

eBay Deal of the Week: 1975 BMW 2002

Whether you know it or not, the BMW 2002 is one of the most important little cars ever imported into the United States. As one of the first true sports sedans on the market, it showed consumers that you could indeed have fun while hauling 4 passengers in comfort. This 1975 model is up for sale on eBay and I’ve got to say it’s one trick little machine. Clad in slick black paint with an updated 170 HP 2.4L four-cylinder engine, dual 45 DCOE Weber carburetors, and BBS style wheels wearing Kumho 215 45 ZR16 tires, this 2002 has you covered in the performance department. The interior will not disappoint either with such upgrades as Porsche Recaro seats with netted headrests and a McIntosh head unit with 4×6 Infinity speakers. The bidding ends in 5 days so make sure to click through to check out more pics, or click to go directly to the auction.

2013 BMW 640i Gran Coupe

Thumbs Up: A real head turner; as stylish a car as BMW builds.

Thumbs Down: Rear leg room lacking, options quickly escalate price.

Buy This Car If: Your bank account allows this big of a fashion statement.

In a perfect world, all coupes would have two doors and all sedans would have four. If nothing else, this would allow those of us who write about cars for a living to keep things simple when we describe new vehicles. We don’t live in a perfect world, though, and the hottest segment in the luxury car world these days appears to be the four-door coupe. Mercedes has its CLS550, Porsche has its Panamera, Audi has its A7, and as of the 2013 model year, BMW now has its 6 Series Gran Coupe, available in 640i, 650i and 650i xDrive variants. Read More…

EVO Car of the Year 2012

Porsche vs Lotus, Toyota vs Morgan, BMW vs Porsche as well as a host of other great automobiles battle it out for the EVO Car of the Year 2012. Now while all of these battles are excellent the ones you really want to focus on are the Toyota GT86 vs the Morgan 3-Wheeler, and the McLaren 12c vs the Pagani Huayra.
