2014 Range Rover Sport vs Spitfire TR9

2014 Range Rover

Oh Range Rover… can you not think of anything else to do but to race your newest SUV against an old fighter plane? Yes it’s an interesting comparison, but it’s so contrived that it’s actually painful to watch. How many 50 year old Cougars in Los Angeles county are really going to care about the 510 HP and a 0-62 time of 5 seconds. Now their husbands… that’s another story entirely.

Props for the 1945 Spitfire TR9 though – now THAT’s a real sight to behold!

Range Rover Evoque: On and Off-Road Test

Range Rover Evoque

They’re a favorite amongst the California Cougar, amazing off-road and come with one helluva’ substantial price tag. Since 1970 Range Rovers have been giving the public a taste of their high-class ruggedness and have been doing so with a shape that has been recognizable for over 40-years. However now they’re bringing us the Evoque, a medium-sized SUV that’s been scaled back on performance, but thrust full-speed ahead on style. Hell, Victoria Beckham was a design consultant on the project. Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire recently got his hands on the Evoque to see if it was still worthy of the Range Rover name, or if it was simply all flash.

2013 Range Rover

There are two type of Range Rover enthusiasts out there. Those who like to be seen in them, and those who actually purchase them for their off-road abilities. Unfortunately the vast majority of owners (like 99%) dump big money on these wonderful machines for the sole purpose of being seen. Matt Farah of recently headed to Arizona on Range Rovers dime to sample the new 2013 line of Rovers, so make sure to check it out after the jump.

2012 Range Rover Evoque

Thumbs Up: Believe the hype: the Evoque is as good as critics say it is.

Thumbs Down: All that style and luxury carries a hefty price with it.

Buy This Car If: You want the most stylish crossover on the market today and can swing the price of admission.

When the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque debuted in late 2011, we quickly got tired of reading all the praise heaped on Range Rover’s latest model. It seemed like no one had a bad thing to say about the stylish crossover, and the Evoque just kept winning accolades month after month. Since launch, it’s picked up eight awards that we’re aware of, including the 2012 North American Truck of the Year, the 2012 World Design Car of the Year, 2012 Best of the Best from Autoweek, 2012 SUV of the Year from Motor Trend and the 2011 Car of the Year from Top Gear. Clarkson Would Be Proud

White Trash

There is no doubt that if Jeremy Clarkson saw this he’d be deeply proud of his countries contribution to the SUV scene here in America. Apparently this person decided to forgo any notion of class and simply went for the trailer trash look. Well done Sir.. well done indeed!

The 2012 Range Rover Evoque: SUV of the Year?

Posted in auto industry, Car Buying, Jaguar, Land Rover, News, Range Rover, SUV, Videos by Kurt Ernst | October 27th, 2011 | 4 Responses |

The Range Rover Evoque was designed to open doors for Jaguar Land Rover, and to attract new customers to the somewhat stodgy brand. For many American buyers, a Range Rover was nothing more than a way of telling the neighbors you made more money than them (and didn’t worry about details like depreciation or reliability). That may work in the suburbs, but it didn’t play well with young, urban hipsters, who Jaguar Land Rover desperately wants as customers. Read More…

Does Range Rover Need A Performance Evoque?

While still capable off-road to some degree, the Range Rover Evoque is primarily a “lifestyle vehicle,” targeted to urban hipsters who want to be seen driving the trendiest new vehicles. As such, more effort went into designing a cool-but-functional interior than picking the perfect engines, although the turbodiesel and turbocharged gas engines used in the Evoque will be perfectly suitable to most drivers. Another Dissatisfied Chinese Customer: Range Rover Edition

Chinese Range Rover

Not long ago we brought you the story of the Chinese businessman that was so dissatisfied with the service he received from Lamborghini of China that he actually destroyed his own car on China’s National Consumer Day to prove a point. The pictures and video of his poor battered bull were heartbreaking, but as it turns out, the man got his point across in spades. Now it seems that because of this little stunt another dissatisfied customer, this time in a Range Rover, is also thinking outside the box while trying to make his point. is reporting that a Shenyang, China resident is fed up with the fact that his $304,000 (not a misprint) SUV has broken down 6 times in the last year, and on the 7th time, it needed a new engine. As opposed to unleashing an angry mob on the mechanically stricken machine, the owner simply tied a few donkeys to it and had them tow it to the dealership to make a point. Apparently the dealer was not amused and refused to offer any type of compensation.

A Virtual Range Rover Evoque, Driven By Ghosts

We’ve already told you all there is to know about the Range Rover Evoque (here and here), which won’t be on the streets for another ten months or so. That didn’t stop Range Rover from creating the above video, which appears to show a virtual Evoque being virtually driven through virtual streets, by ghosts. You do get a good sense of what the Evoque looks like on the road, and you also get a decent look at the Evoque’s well appointed interior and panoramic roof.

2011 Range Rover Evoque Proves Four Doors Can Be Sexy, Too

2011 Range Rover Evoque 5 Door

The 2011 Range Rover Evoque may be the best looking SUV (or crossover, depending upon your perspective) in the history of mankind. Will you be able to ford jungle streams and climb straight up the side of a volcano in one, like you could in a Land Rover Defender or a classic Range Rover? No, probably not, unless the stream is only a few inches deep and the volcano has a gravel road to the caldera. That certainly won’t hurt Evoque sales, since the urban-hip SUV is aimed at a buyer more concerned with image than with capabilities.
