How long do you keep a car?

It generally happens around the 16-month point. That’s the point in time when I get the itch to get out of whatever I’m driving as a daily driver and move onto something else. In fact the longest I’ve ever kept a daily was three years. While most people are content with keeping their cars for five, even ten years, I start thinking about what I’m getting next as soon as I purchase the car I currently have. It’s a vicious cycle that has nothing to do with a cars mileage or mechanical condition, moreover, it’s just that I get bored of things very quickly. Leasing a car for example scares the hell out of me for the simple fact that the idea of being “locked” into a car for 36 months seems like a jail sentence. I like variety and the idea of changing things up, although I’m not sure that most would agree with me.

Just curious – how long does everyone out there keep a car/s and what are your reasons for doing so? Let us know in the comments because inquiring minds want to know.
